My Approach

At the heart of my work is the belief that real and lasting change happens not just through new strategies or advice, but through deep understanding, honest connection, and the courageous work of facing the truth of our stories.

Clients have come to therapy because something about their existing patterns — ways of thinking, relating to others and themselves, coping with emotions and stress — is causing distress or limitation. The goal of psychotherapy is to recognize the existing patterns and their costs, and create mental and emotional “space” for something new.

We will explore how past relationships shape present struggles — and how healing becomes possible in the context of a safe, attuned relationship. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, addiction, depression, or questions of meaning and faith, therapy is a place to feel known and begin writing a new story that moves you from the path of disconnection to connection.

Primary clients: Teens, college students, adults, and families

Common issues: Addictions (substance use and pornography), anxiety, depression, emotional attunement, grief, attachment issues, building connections, developing relationships, Christian counseling, finding meaning and purpose, and career concerns.

Testimonials

“My husband’s life has been completely transformed, and therefore my own life has been completely transformed. He went from a suicide attempt to being a man capable of dealing with life and finding connection with me. I’m forever grateful for Jason.”

— Wife of client

“Jason remembers more of my story than I do. It’s incredible how he’ll remember some small detail from a year ago that I’d forgotten about. It usually ends up being important. I told Jason at the start I’d stop coming when he was wrong about something in my life … alas, I’m still going.”

— Client struggling with emotional avoidance

“I recommend and refer to Jason when anyone desires a male therapist. It was such a big loss for our community that he moved to Greenville, but he’ll be very valuable to his new community and clients.”

— Former colleague in Charlottesville, VA
